Steve McVey – Who Accepted Whom?

Shame is such a deep wound that haunts those of us dealing with sexual sin. So much so that we can stiff-arm God; rejecting his open invitation to enjoy his presence. Our shame shouts in our ears and deafens us to the still, small voice of the Holy Spirit that says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened…” (Matt. 11:28).

Steve McVey blogged about how salvation itself isn’t about us accepting Jesus as our “Personal Lord and Savior” as touted in so many evangelical circles. But rather, it is a proclamation that because of Jesus Christ God accepts us just the way we are. We only have to put our faith in Christ. This is earth-shattering news to those living in deep shame!

Take a minute to read Steve’s post and maybe leave him an encouraging comment. :)

  • I like what he has said about not Christ coming into my life but Christ accepting me into His. That makes more sense to me. We just need now for churches over the world to change their terminology and theology on this one and to practice it the way Steve has in his article.

  • Wouldn't that be interesting! I think his description is more accurate. Christ accepts us and we get to share in that. Saying the opposite, that we accept Christ, may give a good feeling to those who are in the free-will camp, which is okay. But our acceptance really isn't the issue. The issue is being accepted by God, which is what the cross is all about!

  • Peter:

Yes you are correct! It makes sense seeing He wanted us to be restored to Him and the sin issue to be resolved and He is the only one that could achieve this for us.
